How to Wash Your Pillows

Washing your pillows regularly is an important part of keeping your bedding clean and germ-free. While pillowcases help keep pillows clean, over time they still build up dust, dirt and bacteria. We recommend washing your pillows at least twice a year or when they're visibly dirty or stained. Ready for a cleaner night's sleep? This blog post will explain the steps to washing different types of pillows - most can be washed right at home in your washing machine!

How to Wash Cotton, Down or Synthetic Pillows:

1. Remove the case and any additional protective covers so you're only washing the body of the pillow.2. Place pillow(s) in washing machine. We recommend washing two at once to keep your machine balanced.3. Use a small amount of detergent and wash on the gentle cycle in hot water.4. Run an extra rinse cycle with cold water to remove any remaining soap.5. Tumble dry pillows on low heat, fluffing often. For down and feather pillows, use the no-heat or air-dry setting. If pillows are still damp or have a musty smell, try placing them in a sunny spot inside your home so they can air out and finish drying.

How to Wash Foam or Latex Pillows:

1. Remove the case and any additional protective covers so you're only washing the body of the pillow.2. Use a vacuum with an upholstery brush to get rid of any dust or dirt.3. Use a damp cloth to spot-clean any stains.4. Tumble in the dryer on the no-heat or air-dry setting.

How to Hand Wash Your Pillows:

If your pillows aren't machine-safe and they also aren't made of foam or latex, you can wash them by hand in a large basin, sink or bathtub.1. Remove the case and any additional protective covers so you're only washing the body of the pillow.2. Fill your tub or sink up with warm water, enough to fully submerge the pillow.3. Use a small about of detergent and let pillow soak for approximately 10 minutes.4. Knead the pillow fibers and fabric to loosen any dust or dirt.5. Remove pillow and rinse with fresh water. Continue rinsing until all soap residue is gone.6. Use a towel to dry your pillow, then place it in a sunny spot inside your home so it can continue to air out and dry.
