Fabric by the Yard for DIY Home Projects

We specialize in ready-made window treatments and home decor items, but we also love supporting your own creative endeavors by providing a selection of unique and high-quality fabric. Many people are currently stuck at home with a bit of extra time on their hands, making this the perfect time for DIY home projects. Whether you are a seasoned DIYer or want to give it a try for the first time, we’ve put together a list of our favorite DIY projects to help inspire you.

If you are fairly new to sewing, placemats or table runners are great places to start. They are simple to design and quick to complete, which will give you the satisfaction of completing a project, as well as a new dining table look. One fun thing you can do with both placemats and table runners is make them double sided. Simply use a different fabric on each side, perhaps a pattern and a solid color, and then you’ve got two different looks in one. Our top pick fabric for placemats is currently the Premier Print Manifesto Belgian Fabric, which would look amazing paired with a set of solid colored napkins. For a table runner, we love the slightly textured feel of the Waverly Deane Embroidery Fabric. Throw pillows are one of our favorite home decorating items, and they make great DIY projects. They have the power to transform a room’s whole look, and they are easy to swap out seasonally or whenever you need a refresh. To learn more about styling decorative pillows read our blog post on them here. Accent pillows come in such a huge variety of styles, colors, patterns, and designs, that pretty much any of our fabrics could make an awesome pillow cover. This Spring, we are especially loving the Premier Prints Alyssa Fabric and the Premier Prints Abydos Cotton and Linen Blend Fabric. Curtains are another great DIY project, and creating your own allows you to customize them for your home. This is especially helpful if you live in an older home that has odd sized windows. Before you get started, make sure to check out our resources page for information on how to measure for curtains, and our blog post on window treatments for odd sized windows. Again, any of our fabrics would make beautiful curtains or drapes, and our top pick for this Spring is the Premier Prints Lotus Slub Canvas Fabric. If you are looking for something a bit more complex, try making your own slipcover. Couches often become the center of attention in living rooms, so changing up your slipcover will give the whole room a makeover. The best fabric for a project like this is really going to depend on personal preference. Some people love a bold, patterned couch, while others like to keep it simple and add pops of color and patterns with accent pillows and throws. The Premier Prints Traditions Cloud linen Fabric is a great middle of the road option. It is patterned, but its low contrast, neutral color pallet make it easy to style with bold colors and even other patterns. We hope this will inspire you to tackle that DIY project you’ve been meaning to get to, or to try something new. Our fabrics are hand selected by our decorators, and include unique patterns and color combinations that we think are perfect for a number of home decor projects. Check out the full selection here.
