Keep Your Window Treatments Looking New

Hello, home decor enthusiasts. Today, as part of our spring-cleaning efforts, let's tackle a task often overlooked: cleaning window treatments. Whether you have classic drapes or modern blinds, maintaining their freshness is easier than you think.

Curtains and Drapes

Let's start with curtains and drapes. These beauties can collect a surprising amount of dust, pollen, and even the occasional pet hair. A quick shake outdoors can be quite effective, but for a more thorough cleaning, always check the care instructions first. Another alternative is to vacuum with an upholstery tool or to put it in the dryer on air fluff with no heat. 

Most fabric curtains are machine washable. Remember to use a gentle cycle and cold water to keep them from shrinking or fading. For those of you with heavy or expensive drapes, a trip to the dry cleaner may be necessary for proper care. 

Blinds

Now, onto blinds. Whether you have wood, faux wood, or aluminum blinds, regular dusting is essential. A simple swipe with a microfiber cloth or a duster can lift off the dust. For a deeper clean, mix a bit of mild dish soap with warm water, dampen a cloth, and give each slat some TLC. Be sure to dry them off afterwards to prevent any water damage.
 

Shades

Shades can be a little trickier, but they are absolutely doable during your spring-cleaning endeavors. Vacuuming is the most effective way to clean your shades. Use the brush attachment and give those shades a gentle once-over. For stains, a spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent should do the trick. Be gentle to avoid stretching or wear.

Valances and Cornices

Don’t forget about valances and cornices—these can be real dust magnets. A quick vacuum or a swipe with a lint roller can keep them looking sharp. If they’re made from fabric, check the care instructions provided with them. Many valances can be machine-washed in cold water with like colors, like your curtains.
